Kelma Jean was born in Castries, Saint Lucia, on April 7th 2000. She is Saint Lucian but moved to Bonn, Germany, in July 2012. This will be her first TEDx performance, however, she is accustomed to public speaking. She wants to be a doctor or a teacher, because she enjoys helping people. She likes to dance, sing, and read. Her speech is about feeling like a back up friend but more importantly, learning to appreciate your true friends instead of chasing your fake ones. This topic has a personal connection to her as she and many can relate to this.

Jarl Bentzen is a grade 8 student at Bonn International School and is 14 years old. He was born in Hamburg, Germany and lived there for 3 years before moving to Seattle, Washington. He then lived there for 8 years before coming to BIS in 5th grade. He enjoys using technology a lot, so he combined this interest with another to bring a speech called, ‘To Screen or Not To Screen,” which talks about how using screens may not be as healthy as you think.

Abigail Conner

Abigail (Abby) Conner, born in Michigan, USA, lived briefly in Orange County, California, and moved to Salvador, Brazil, at the age of 11. After spending three years there, she and her family moved to Bonn, where she enrolled at BIS - and has been here ever since. Being a committed bookworm and science enthusiast herself, Abby’s speech is about the importance of literature and fiction in our lives - both biologically and physiologically. Through her speech, she explores the benefits of reading and writing, and encourages people of all ages to search for their meaning and purpose through creating the story of their lives.

Adi Mazumdar

Adi Mazumdar, 14, lived near New York City until he moved to Germany in 2013. He will talk about the effect of inadequate journalism on minorities, particularly its effect on Muslims in recent years. The inspiration of the talk came from observing online hate speech against Muslims, and how these arguments were often based on hoaxes or inaccurate information.

This is her first TEDx presentation. Her goal is to motivate girls to play football with boys and/or join football clubs. Juanita is passionate about football, and plays for the Varsity Girls’ team. At the age of 12, she was introduced to a mixed gender football club by her dad. Juanita sometimes questioned herself why most girls do not play football with boys.
